Karen St. Clair was our very first advertiser for a full year and she started with us for Issue #1. She's still with us, 6 years later ... :) Although our message hasn't ever changed, 1) addiction is treatable 2) recovery is possible 3) help & support is available Our method has shifted a bit as we've learned more about our audiences and expanded our reach Being a team of people with lived experience - both as people in recovery from addiction and allies who love those who struggle - we've learned alot about the opportunities to raise awareness about the inspiring stories, programs and resources that are available AND that many people want to help amplify a message of hope! When people learn more, they share what they learn and communities can be more informed and supportive.

a different media company our goal : a more informed community member we are people with lived experience with addiction, either in recovery ourselves or friends and allies we know the truth about 3 facts: 1) addiction is a medical condition that is treatable 2) recovery is possible and there are MILLIONS of people who have reclaimed their lives, repaired the damage done and are engaged community members 3) help & support is available we aim to: > raise up and share the inspiring stories > elevate and promote the MANY paths to recovery > invite others to help us amplify the facts by showing up at Maine's Employer Summit yesterday and bringing a message to people who have been affected (91% of our audience) our goal was to expand the lens by which people view this conversation people in recovery are not just a subset of the employee population [which not surprising was 25% of the audience] many people are affected let's just assume that the person we're talking to is affected by addiction and be more mindful about our language everyone would benefit.

above average response to "yes I know someone" in a group of 44 voters - 91% have been affected these types of real-time anonymous polls help to bring awareness to the fact that 2 out of 3 people are affected maybe we could just assume the person we're talking to has been affected and be mindful about our language how we talk about addiction and people struggling can either close down a conversation or provide an opening for support let's make the resources, inspiring stories and programs visible to more people in settings where people are affected ... pretty much any where, really.

Congratulations to our friends at National Safety Council on the launch of your new Workplace Wellbeing Hub! From their new hub: "The connections between workplaces and the health and wellbeing of workers and their families are well documented. In 2010, a decade prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Harvard researchers found that “for every dollar a company spends on preventive wellness, medical costs fall by $3.27 and absenteeism drops by $2.73. That amounts to a 6-to-1 return on investment.” Every year we’re learning more about how healthy workers are critical to the safety, culture and bottom line of workplaces. As the pandemic highlighted, workplaces are also critical parts of communities, vital public health partners and able to innovatively support the workforce. Three categories of workplace benefits are included here: > health care coverage > employee support > workplace practices. Use the benefits checklist to help create a comprehensive benefits system.

Journey launched March 1, 2019 with 10,000 printed copies This podcast with Marie was recorded at the end of June - we had printed 2 issues and the response was clear that we had struck a need for hope in this conversation about addiction As a no drama, no trauma, no trigger media platform - we fiercely protect the psychological safety of our audience so we don't publish about the consequences or the devastation of active addiction In order to provide compelling evidence that recovery is possible, we share inspiring personal stories, accessible programs and resources along with helpful well-being articles An although we've grown through our partnerships and community engagement our mission to make recovery more visible to more people has never changed If you know recovery is possible, please amplify what you know -- we're all personal media companies today, thanks to the advancement of technology (we have more power to amplify a message to the masses on our cell phones than some of the large media agencies of yesteryear) Everyone can amplify a message of hope It's needed ... desparately.

Founder & ceo : amplifier of hope - using media, marketing and publishing to make recovery from addiction more visible

I'm so excited to be recording an update podcast this morning with Marie Sola from Daughters of Change I was her very first interview when she launched her podcast back in 2019 - and ironically today, our Journey HQ is in that podcast room in a co-working space I think we had just published issue #2 - little did I know what would happen listening to this first podcast to refresh my memory reminds me that our messaging hasn't changed since day 1 "we want more people to know that recovery is possible, there are millions of us in recovery and we care deeply" we've been talking about celebrating freedom from addiction since day 1 although i've learned a ton about a ton and Journey, as a business has changed a bit, some things won't ever change and that's our messaging 1) addiction is treatable 2) recovery is possible 3) help & support is available can't be grateful enough.

Margo’s Journey .... Thanks Margo Walsh for sharing your personal recovery story and how you found a lifeline in unexpected places! >> From her early struggles with sugar addiction to her life-changing experiences in church basements, Margo's story is one of resilience and redemption. Early Challenges: "As a child addicted to sugar, I'd steal money to satiate my cravings. This early battle was just the beginning." Cultural Influence: "Growing up in a big Irish family, alcohol was a staple at social events, yet we never discussed its darker side." Turning Point: "The night of December 13th, 1997, marked my lowest point—abandoned just before Christmas, I finally sought the help I desperately needed." Recovery and Hope: "With each step in rehab and every new friendship, I rebuilt my life. Now, I prioritize my well-being and embrace my inner strength." Margo’s Advice: "To those struggling—don’t suffer in silence. Speaking up is the first step towards recovery."

we're a group of people, many of us have lived through the nightmare of active addiction and we believe more people should know the facts that .... 1) addiction is TREATABLE 2) recovery is POSSIBLE 3) help & support is AVAILABLE we amplify hope .... and here's our why

"why?" why ... a media company? why ... a PRINT magazine in 2019? why ... out in "public"? why ... direct mail? why ... now? Greenlight Maine created our founder story last fall and since then I've had many people reach out and ask me various types of "Why" questions. After 27+ years quietly living my best bonus life leading IT departments, why such a shift in my professional career to doing what I'm doing today (not so quietly)? This morning during my morning zen time I reflected on these types of questions over the past few months and I realized that ULTIMATELY it's about inclusivity, which has been one of Journey's core values since day 1. At the time, it meant the many paths to recovery and ALL humans and today I see it connects to accessibility. We want EVERYONE to have access to the FACTS: 1) addiction is treatable 2) recovery is possible 3) help & support is available Accessibility to this information shouldn't be reserved for those of us who found our way to treatment (thank god) or for those of us who ended up behind bars or for those who struggle getting our basic needs met. Everyone should know about the advancements in science, the many paths to finding a FREE community-based mutual aid recovery program and the support that's available. If more people know the facts, more people can share and amplify what they learn - the ripple effect of people adding voices to this message of hope can not be denied. Our children are listening and watching. visible AND accessible recovery information saves lives we promote the facts with writers, collaborators, partners and ambassadors and then we get amplify it grateful.

"we don't have that problem here" it was a response from an employer recently to a Journey team member they said "Oh ok, here's a magazine, just in case" thanks to the National Safety Council calculator we're able to look at the prevalence by State by Industry (link in the comments) this type of response is actually the exception and not the rule when talking to employers most are eager to understand where resources are and how to help their employees, their family members and the communities they do business in thankfully.
