We Give Our Clients the Power and Voice to Move Forward After Serious Injury.

About us

Berman & Simmons is Maine’s leading personal injury and medical malpractice law firm. For over 100 years, we have helped clients who have been seriously injured due to no fault of their own. We specialize exclusively in Plaintiff lawsuits involving medical errors, motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, dangerous or unsafe property, defective products, gun violence, and sexual abuse. We represent people—no matter their circumstances or backgrounds—who often come to us at the most difficult and challenging times in their lives. In turn, we take on the toughest opponents, including insurance companies, large corporations, and established institutions. We give our clients the tools to find a path forward to recovery as we seek justice and accountability from those responsible for causing them harm. Our unwavering commitment to justice has long put us on the cutting edge of the law. We have a proud tradition of successful advocacy before the Maine Courts and Legislature, enabling us to help effect meaningful changes to laws that have expanded the rights of all Mainers. No other Maine law firm can match our depth of talent, expertise, and financial strength. And our results speak for themselves. We have recovered over $1.35 billion for our injured clients.

This is an important fundraiser for their sexual assault support programming and Children's Advocacy Center. All proceeds will go directly to supporting survivors of sexual violence in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties. See comments for a link to register to join us!

Berman & Simmon has represented two families in separate cases concerning antique vehicles not properly inspected before use in public events, resulting in injury or death. On May 4th, another antique vehicle lost control at the Kennebunk May Day Parade, crashing into a float carrying children.   These potentially fatal oversights are preventable; and past failures should be used as learning opportunities to prevent future tragedies from occurring.   “Let’s do more to protect Mainers at cherished public outings.”   Link to Op-ed written by Attorney Daniel Kagan in the comments.

Members of our Sexual Abuse Survivors Practice Group attended the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MECASA) Awards Ceremony in Augusta last week. Attorney Michael Bigos had an opportunity to speak and five of our clients received awards for their courage and bravery in bringing civil claims following Maine’s new law that expanded protections for victims of sexual abuse. Berman & Simmons was also recognized for its work in bringing accountability, healing, and justice to victims of child sexual abuse.

Heartwarming and bittersweet.   The re-opening of Just-In-Time Recreation after the tragic mass shootings in October is one mighty step in our community's healing and recovery process. These memorial bowling pins, made and donated by Garland Manufacturing Company, will poignantly serve as a reminder of the friends and neighbors we lost too soon.     Link to story in the comments. #lewistonmaine #LewistonStrong
