New Ventures Maine’s southern Maine office is located at the University of Maine System’s Graduate and Professional Center. The office is part of the Center’s newly expanded space that is centrally locating small business and innovation-based resources. NVME’s mission is to help Maine people succeed in the changing economy and achieve economic security for themselves and their families. Congratulations to NVME Microenterprise Specialist Destin DeCambre! Destin completed the Young Professionals Institute (YPI) last week. Her cohort focused on time management, agility, an exploration of remote teamwork, technology and AI advancements, and intercultural relations. YPI helps participants hone their professional skills through hands-on activities, on-the-spot public speaking assignments, and business simulation exercises. Destin said her favorite part of YPI was, “being able to network with individuals with the same amount of passion for their jobs as I have for mine.” She added, ”I am very much a hands-on learner and being able to get that personal experience made this program just what I needed to expand my knowledge." The YPI Class of 2024 was hosted by the University of Maine at Presque Isle and @mmginsurancecompany, and supported by Cary Medical Center, Katahdin Trust Company, and Northern Light A.R. We’re hiring a Microenterprise Development Program Manager! This is an opportunity to manage a team that creates an empowering environment for Maine people to define and achieve their small business goals. Destin, a member of the New Ventures Maine microenterprise team, put her job satisfaction into words recently, saying, “I can honestly say that I love my job and I love the people I work with and the people I get to help.” The microenterprise team manager will organize and manage program delivery; support, train, and supervise microenterprise development team staff; and provide small business and asset development training, technical assistance, and support to the target population, including under-resourced individuals. The manager will also be responsible for developing and maintaining organizational partnerships that contribute to small business development. The position is based in Portland. Job salary is low- to mid-50s and the position offers a flexible work schedule with office hours, some travel, and some evening and work-from-home hours.
